School Leaver Scholarships

Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement

Value: $25,000

Te Paewai o te Rangi: The University of Waikato Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement has been established to contribute to the University’s Vision of achieving excellence, distinctiveness and international connectedness.

School Leaver Scholarships

If you pass NCEA Level 3 with Merit or Excellence and  you’re enrolled at Waikato, you will automatically receive a scholarship with no application required.

Merit endorsements receive $3,000  and Excellence endorsements receive $5,000.

University of Waikato Academic Merit  School Leaver Scholarship
All you need to do is meet the criteria for entry to your programme and gain  NCEA Level 3 Certificate with a Merit endorsement.

Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence  School Leaver Scholarship
All you need to do is meet the criteria for entry to your programme and gain  NCEA Level 3 Certificate with an Excellence endorsement.

If you have taken a gap year, you may still be eligible for a School Leaver  Scholarship. Please check the scholarship regulations and fill in an  application form.

The Tokoroa and Putaruru School Leaver Scholarship: Te Ara ki Angitū

Value: $5,000

This scholarship has been created to remove your barriers of access to  university if you are leaving a secondary school in Putaruru or  Tokoroa. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of evidence of  financial need, personal circumstances, leadership and community roles,  academic ability and commitment to succeed in university study.

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme

Value: up to $10,000 per annum

The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme educates future leaders at the University of Waikato within the  values of New Zealand's greatest adventurer, Sir Edmund Hillary. We are all  inspired by the view that "Together, we believe the impossible is a summit  to be conquered".

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars must excel in academia, leadership and sports or  creative and performing arts. Various professional development opportunities  and fees support are provided for scholars.

Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders' Scholarship

Value: $6,000 for up to three years.

This scholarship has been established to provide academically talented Pacific students who demonstrate  significant leadership potential the opportunity to study at the University of  Waikato. Students must be New Zealand citizens, of Pacific Island descent and  enrolling at the University of Waikato for the first time in 2016.

D.V. Bryant Trust University of Waikato Residential Scholarship

Value: Up to $7,000 towards funding for Halls of  Residence accommodation fees.

Awarded to first-year undergraduate students whose financial or other  circumstances make accommodation within a Hall of Residence environment  beneficial to their academic progress in the University. These students will  have proven academic potential and demonstrable financial need.
