Ryan Dingle

Bachelor of Science (BSc)

Spotswood College

Ryan's interest for triathlons started as a kid when he participated in the Weet-Bix kids Tryathlon. Hailing from New Plymouth, Ryan was a stand-out student at Spotswood College where he was Deputy Head Boy, Peer Support Leader, House Captain, Student rep on the sports council and part of the Taranaki sport talent ID squad. Ryan has been a triathlete for about four years, trains twice a day six days a week and loves being able to stay fit and travel. He has been in World Championships races, Oceania races and national races. He came 13th at the 2012 world age group championships and made the New Zealand team three years running. He hopes to one day turn pro, race on the world circuit and eventually race in the Olympics. While at Waikato, Ryan will be studying towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Earth Science.

Achievements

2014 Age Group World Champs - 01/09/2014
World Age Group Champs held in Edmonton Canada
This was my peak race for the season and I had high expectations coming into the race which I'm glade to say I filled. Finishing 18th in a very big (90 people) high class field was a huge achievement to me especially seen as I was first year in the 20-24 age group and the youngest person in my race. I had a pretty good swim, smashed the bike and paid for it on the run but still managed to post a good time. Traveling over there was a huge success and made all of the winter training worth it. I will be looking to improve on that result in the coming 4 years I have left in that age group.

2014 Age Group World Aquathlon Champs - 28/08/2014
World Age Group Aquathlon Champs held in Edmonton Canada
This race is deemed a warm up race to the main event of the triathlon world champs and was a smaller field of competitors but certainly not short of talent. The Aquathlon is a 1000m Swim and 5km run and I managed to come in 7th home. This was a good race for me as it helped to get me ready for the racing conditions I would experience in the triathlon and also help to get rid of jet lag and freshen the legs up abit after a considerable plane ride. This was also a good result for me as the aquathlon doesn't include my strength leg of the bike so to finish top 10 was a great achievement.

Auckland Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon National Champs - 06/04/2014
I competed in Auckland in the top quality National Champs Triathlon field. I finished 7th overall in 20-24 age group and the 6th kiwi. It was a good race as it was only my second Standard distance race and I'm still learning the ins and outs. To finish 6th out of 21 in our age group for my first year in the age group looks promising for future years to come.

2nd ITU Age Group Cup - 23/03/2014 This event was an age group race held down in New Plymouth for the ITU World Cup Circut. I finished 1st in my age group and 2nd overall. There were competitors from many different countries involved.

Wellington Olympic Distance Triathlon - 08/03/2014

Wellington Olympic Distance Triathlon/New Zealand Selection Race.

My first Olympic distance race which was double the distance than what I am used to racing. I managed to secure a spot in the New Zealand team to travel to Canada later on in the year by finishing top 5 in my age group.

Rev Cycle Festival - 22/02/2014
Rev Cycle Festival

Started in the front bunch of the race and held on for the entire 100km race finishing with a strong sprint to place 11th fastest overall and 2nd place in under 20 age group.
