Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE(Hons))
Sacred Heart Girls’ College
Tara was 2014 dux at Sacred Heart Girls’ College in Hamilton. She is talented in science and the arts. She has her own key to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin in Hamilton so she can go and practise the organ almost any time of day.
At University, she’s studying mechanical engineering. She likes the challenges that science and maths present, and the fact they require team work to solve problems, create products and find solutions. That’s what drew Tara to engineering, and the fact it requires a good blend of theory and practical. She is also keen to make her mark in what’s traditionally been a male-dominated field.
In 2013, Tara was selected to be the new organ scholar at the Cathedral and now, having come to grips with the complexity of using hands and feet and different manuals all at the same time, is able to accompany the choir and often leads the congregation in music. She’s also a competent singer and as well as participating in choir and barbershop at school, has participated in the Hamilton Garden Arts Festival and World Music Day in Hamilton’s Centre Place.
